Welcome to Harvard Model Congress Dubai! My name is Ryan O’Meara and I’ll be chairing the House Education and the Workforce committee this year. I am excited to get to know you all during our time at the conference.
First, a little bit about me: I’m a junior at Harvard from Dallas, Texas, studying Economics with a secondary field in Government. I’ve staffed HMC conferences in Boston, Rome, and Sao Paulo and can’t wait to visit the Middle East for the first time. Outside of HMC, I do opinion writing for The Harvard Crimson. In my free time, I love playing golf and watching Texas Rangers baseball.
You've chosen a great committee to be involved with. Over the course of the conference, you'll work in a fast-paced environment as we work through exciting issues affecting students and the workforce. We will spend time examining the minimum wage and discussing ideas about whether it should change. From there, we’ll pivot toward examining standardized testing reform. As delegates representing members of the House of Representatives, your job is to legislate creative and interesting solutions to these problems that affect your constituents and the public as a whole. As you can see, we certainly have our work cut out for us.
Please be in touch with any questions you have before January. I look forward to meeting you soon!
